Growing Hemp in Tioga County

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tioga County is partnering with Farm Bureau to host an informational presentation on growing industrial hemp.Industrial hemp was legalized by the federal government late in 2018, and this year has seen an explosion in interest in growing this crop.Growing hemp is not like planting corn or pumpkins, though, there are a lot of regulations you must adhere to, and a permit to grow the crop is required by NYS Ag and Markets.

The program will be held November 13, 2019, from 1-3 pm in the Hubbard Auditorium at the Ronald Dougherty Office Building, 56 Main Street, Owego. Featured speakers include Janice Degni, a member of the Cornell Hemp Team and the South Central Dairy and Field Crops Team and Barb Neal, CCE Tioga Agriculture and Horticulture Educator.

The fee for the presentation is $10 per farm, and the fee is waived for Farm Bureau members.Payment will be accepted at the door—cash or check.
