Love the crunch of a locally grown apple? Want to plant an apple tree your grandchildren will enjoy? Love apples, but don't want to climb a ladder to pick them? Learn all about the science of growing apples! We will discuss rootstock selection (and why it matters), choosing varieties, trellis/support systems, deer protection and more! There are a lot of upfront decisions to be made before taking the plunge in your own orchard, come learn the best way for you to start.
This will be a virtual presentation via Zoom, and it will be recorded for you to view later if you cannot make the presentation.
This is the first of a three-part series on apple trees. Next up is an in-person visit to Southern Tier Apples to learn how to prune apple trees. Finish the series doing some pruning of your own on some apple trees and learn top-work grafting so you can have several varieties of apples on one tree!
